Friday 23 August – 3:30 pm
Session to unpack the use of border tech to criminalise and police racialised people, and share strategies to push back:
• unpack and investigate the use of new technologies to police and target freedom of movement in the migration context
• share examples of organising and push back against border and police tech
The sessions will give participants the opportunity to tell their stories and further their understanding of how border tech impacts the work for freedom on the move. Together we will look at how new technologies reinforce existing oppression, how they create new harms and at organising strategies. We will look at who our allies are and what has been done to address the issue
We would like to start with an exchange about your concerns, your experiences and questions when it comes to surveillance and border technology. After this we will explore the current state of digital migration control tech and its role in daily criminalisation and share examples we know. Lastly, we will share current organising examples against border tech, looking at different examples to advance the fight against border tech throughout the world,
